It's easy to see why fans are infatuated with Jacob Elordi, and easy to see how that's the premise of the film Saltburn. Barry Keough's character (Oliver) and his fascination with the aristocratic student Felix (Jacob Elordi) at Oxford University takes us on a wild ride of class, lust, friendship, desire, and truth. Oliver and Felix run in different circles, but a chance encounter changes everything and Oliver becomes part of the cool crowd.
When the school year is over, Felix invites Oliver to his eccentric family's estate to spend the summer. This is the moment where the dynamic between the two heats up and you root for what you think might happen. As far as a romance between these two, there's an underlying tone in the trailer, with fans speculating what might happen. No spoilers here, so you'll have to watch the film to find out.
The movie is written and directed by Emerald Fennell, who was in town recently to screen the film as part of the Chicago International Film Festival. Due to the SAG-AFTRA strike at the time of the screening, she was not able to take any questions on the red carpet for the film.
This whole cast is incredible including Jacob Elordi, Barry Keough, Rosamund Pike, Carey Mulligan and Richard E. Grant, who all give stellar performances in this wicked good time of a movie.
We get to witness Oliver not only get in deeper with Felix, but his entire colorful family. It's easy to see why we root for Oliver, because we all wish someone in our lives took us in at some point to a place and a life that's beyond our wildest dreams. Spending the summer at Saltburn also changes Oliver as the more he gets to know the family, the more he wants to be one of them. Can he go back to his regular university life after this summer, we'll have to wait and find out.
This satire showcases Emerald Fennell's talent, as well as Barry Keough as a leading man. Some of the best lines come from Rosamund Pike, who plays Felix's callous mother. Could we learn a thing or two from her, I'm still processing that. Expect Saltburn to become an instant cult classic and much talked about film for Emerald Fennell, Jacob Elordi & Barry Keough for years to come.
