Early in the Billy Eichner film Bros they mention a fictitious app called 'Zellweger' where potential partners meet and discuss their favorite actresses. If the app was real, I'd assume Toni Collette would be one of the main actresses that brought people together, with her roster of iconic roles to discuss.
Whether it's a bride in Muriel's Wedding or the mother to a son with supernatural powers in The Sixth Sense, we are here for the journey that Toni Collette takes us on with each film. Now it's time to add Mafia Mamma to the collection of films. The film centers around Kristin, who leaves the USA to attend her grandfather's funeral only to find out finds herself with a surprise family business. The decision was easy for her to go after an unexpected situation with her husband.
Rooting for Toni's character is the best part of this film. You want to see her find love, romance, business success & her true self. Here's the thing, within the first five minutes of the film you know exactly what is going to happen and how this film is going to play out and that's ok. From start to finish, I'm on the journey to make sure that Toni's character finds her own version of Eat Pray Love.
For almost 30 years, fans have rooted for Toni and this film is no different. The movie is not going to break ground, but it's an entertaining way to spend around an hour and a forty minutes in the theater and might even inspire a few of the audience members to find their own inner Mafia Mamma.
