The Pickwick Theatre opened in 1928 and will be closing their doors on January 8, 2023.
According to a report in the Chicago Tribune, the iconic movie theatre’s co-owner said they’ve been losing money since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic because of customers and lack of new films to screen.
The Pickwick has stood since 1928 and the Vlahakis family has owned the 900-seat theater since 1967. In 1975, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places.
January 8 is scheduled to be the theatre’s final day with a screening of 'Gone with the Wind' the first movie the Vlahakis family screened back in 1967.
The family hopes someone will take over operations of the movie theater, no word on any potential for any new take over yet.
