The Juice Is Loose!
After 35 years, fans finally have a sequel to the beloved 1988 film. Tim Burton returns to direct this update, bringing back most of the original cast, including Catherine O'Hara, Winona Ryder, and, of course, Michael Keaton reprising his iconic role. Their on-screen chemistry feels as fresh as ever. Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis, prominent in the original film, don’t return, but their characters are referenced.
New to the Beetlejuice universe are Jenna Ortega as Lydia Deetz's estranged daughter and Justin Theroux as Rory, who serves as both a potential love interest and a member of Lydia’s business team. The film also reintroduces the quirky afterlife characters that fans remember fondly.
In the sequel, Lydia, now a host of a popular ghost-hunting show, returns to her family home after learning of her father’s death. As she prepares for the services and the sale of the house, she starts seeing Beetlejuice again. The plot thickens as Beetlejuice seeks help to escape from his soul-sucking ex-wife, Dolores, played by Monica Bellucci.
Tim Burton’s use of music remains a highlight. Known for making unconventional songs iconic, Burton continues this tradition. Just as “Tequila” and Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O” became forever linked to his earlier films, expect similarly memorable musical moments in this sequel.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is an exceptional sequel, brimming with twists and Easter eggs, and might just reach the same level of popularity as the original. Seriously, go see this film, and you might bring back a love from your childhood or get inspiration for a Halloween costume.
